Taking care of someone when they’re in a crisis is very rewarding. Pretty much everyone that walks in my door is in crisis, either themselves or a family member is in trouble. They may be in trouble for the very first time in their lives and have no idea that they could be treated like a criminal. 
The heights are very high and helping people is a great part of what I do.

We want to discover our client story and we want to feel what our client felt, so that we can both be confident in the decisions that we are making going forward. Part of what I do is explain the system and how unfair it can be. It’s an adversarial system. It is only fair when we make it fair. Client: What if I had a person of lesser dedication? 
What if I’d had a person that was not committed so desperately to defend the clients? That was not willing to stand in the breach and say, not on my watch. You’re not gonna take my client without a fierce battle for me. 
What if I have not come in contact with Kim Frye. She gave me back my life, she gave me back my profession. Kim was brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

That’s a huge machine over there with all the money, with all the resources, so someone has to stay in their way because they will take what they want, if someone does not. We make them prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt. 
It’s a very high burden, because you are taking someone’s liberty from that. We can stand in front of the government and tell them that “no, you’re wrong, and you have to prove that I did this.” They have to prove their case and we’re gonna make them do it because no one is getting my client without coming through me.
